Shades of Tesla!

In the January issue of Business 2.0, there is an article about a Home Hydrogen Fueling Station. The company, CSIRO said these home fuel stations could be run by solar or wind power and would separate hydrogen from water to create the fuel. If this is true, then the infrastructure doesn't have to be changed. We can all own our own fuel source by plugging it in to an outlet in our garage. It would be about the size of a four drawer filing cabinet and only cost about $500!
Now comes the skepticism. Do you think the oil companies will allow this? If we each bought one of these, who needs Shell or Sunoco? Think of the trillions of dollars and millions of jobs that would disappear. No more middle east oil. The Arabs can go back to living in the middle ages and we won't need their oil.
Any bets that this technology will ever happen? The scientist who is heading this project is a man named Sukhvinder Badwal. I'd be scared and very cautious if I were him. What do you think?
