Roman for Congress - Voters and Voting
I have seriously considered running for Congress in my district in the 2010 election. I am probably too old, but I am tired of seeing the country I once knew become a new country and NOT a better country.
I would start with introducing legislation that all voters be registered with a legitimate, verifiable address, not a park bench. The voter would have to be a citizen. No illegal aliens and no convicts still in jail. There would be no Motor Voter registration. You couldn't register to vote and then vote at the same time. Registration would have to be verified.
I would even take it a step further and I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like it. The voter must have some basic knowledge of who represents them. They would be required to know the name of the President, Vice President and who their Senators and representatives are.
Even better, everyone running for Federal or State office MUST know the Constitution and the First 10 Amendments. The test will not be written, because politicians would find some way to cheat and get the answers. They would be verbally tested by a panel of High School students from their State or District. If they can't get a passing score, then they shouldn't be allowed to run for office. How can they take an oath of office to support the Constitution if they don't know whats in it?
High Schools will be required to complete a one semester course on the Constitution and 10 amendments in their senior year. They will have to know the documents and WHY they were written by the Founding Fathers. They would have to know the original purpose of these documents, NOT interpretations of teachers or judges who are making up laws from the bench.
What? The Constitution is a living document. It was wrtitten over 200 years ago and doesn't apply to today's world. I hear that argument all the time, but it is a false argument. If any Constitution was a "living" document, then we wouldn't have a Constitution. Those who are in power would interpret these documents the way they want (much like it is done today). Those who are in power would make the laws (or the interpretation of the Constitution), so there would be no fixed amendments. The Founding Fathers provided a way to change the Constitution and it is NOT through the courts!
Are my views radical? No! I wrote a book titled "Congress Shall Make No Law" and it took more that a year of reading through documentation of the Founding Fathers. Maybe you'd like to buy a copy!
